Black Deer Festival
Working on the Black Deer Festival of Americana music was an incredibly enjoyable and fulfilling project. In collaboration with Trefor Smith, we worked on the inaugural festival in 2018 and continued to shape its visual identity over the following years. Our contributions spanned a wide array of materials, including main headline posters, website graphics, various wayfinding signs, illustration styles, animations, backdrops, car parking hangers, various wristbands, podcast icons, logos, flags, merchandise, and social media graphics and elements like geolocation filters.
One of our key challenges was to maintain the festival's recognisable Americana aesthetic while introducing fresh and exciting elements each year. This task was compounded by the dynamic nature of the event, with artists from around the world frequently changing their performance schedules. The fast-paced environment and ever-evolving content demanded quick adaptability and creativity from us.
Despite these challenges, the results were something we took immense pride in. Seeing the designs and illustrations come to life at the festival was incredibly rewarding. It was especially gratifying to over hear some attendees planning to steal the posters and flags as souvenirs!
